2025 Update
Update: The Debt Collection Quality Act (Wki), which the Minister refers to in this article, is now fully in force. Ultimoo naturally meets all requirements and is officially registered in the Debt Collection Register under registration number 0033.
Minister Dekker Pays a Working Visit to Ultimoo
Recently, Sander Dekker, the Minister for Legal Protection, paid a working visit to Ultimoo. During this visit, we introduced him to our methods and operations. He was able to experience firsthand how conversations with debtors unfold by listening in on live calls. Furthermore, together with Connie Maathuis, Director of the NVI (Dutch Association of Certified Debt Collection Agencies), we provided him with an explanation of our code of conduct and the criteria for our quality mark. The message was clearly well-received, as evidenced by his LinkedIn post:
Debt Collection Register with Quality Requirements
Sander Dekker: Debt collection must be handled correctly, ensuring that people in debt do not spiral further into trouble, while ensuring that entrepreneurs, for instance, get their invoices paid. During my visit to Ultimoo Group BV, I saw how this process works. They always attempt to discover the reasons behind unpaid bills through a phone call or a home visit, subsequently looking for a joint solution—such as a payment arrangement—to fulfill those obligations. Unfortunately, another type of agency exists: the 'cowboys' who confront consumers with intimidation and unjust or non-transparent costs, pushing people deeper into financial hardship. To separate the wheat from the chaff, I am today submitting a legislative proposal to the House of Representatives that establishes a debt collection register and sets strict quality requirements. Collectors who behave unprofessionally towards people in debt can thus be effectively barred and excluded from the industry.
